The Rorke's Drift incident occurred in 1879, during the Anglo-Zulu War. Macdonald was in command of a small force of British soldiers who were tasked with defending a mission station from a large Zulu army. The Zulus launched a series of fierce attacks on the mission, but Macdonald and his men were able to hold them off. However, in the aftermath of the battle, Macdonald was accused of Free Downloading the execution of several Zulu prisoners. He was also accused of looting the Zulu kraals and of burning the Zulu crops.

Macdonald denied all of the charges against him, but he was eventually found guilty of murder and of looting and burning. He was dismissed from the army and stripped of his rank and his decorations. The Rorke's Drift incident damaged Macdonald's reputation irreparably, and he never served in the army again.
