George Bush: A Legacy of Leadership and Service
George Herbert Walker Bush (June 12, 1924 – November 30, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 41st president of the United States from 1989 to 1993 and the 43rd vice president of the United States from 1981 to 1989 under Ronald Reagan. Before entering politics, Bush served in the United States Navy during World War II and worked in the oil industry.

Early life and education
Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts, on June 12, 1924, to Prescott Bush, a wealthy investment banker, and Dorothy Walker Bush. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and Yale University, where he studied economics. After graduating from Yale in 1948, Bush worked in the oil industry in Texas.
Military service
In 1942, Bush enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a pilot in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He flew 58 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
Political career
After the war, Bush returned to Texas and resumed his work in the oil industry. He entered politics in 1964, when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in the House for six years and was then appointed by President Richard Nixon to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. In 1976, Bush was elected director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
In 1980, Bush was elected vice president of the United States under Ronald Reagan. He served as vice president for two terms and was instrumental in the Reagan administration's policies, including the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) and the invasion of Grenada.
Presidency
In 1988, Bush was elected president of the United States. He served as president for one term and oversaw the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany. He also signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Bush lost his bid for re-election in 1992 to Bill Clinton. After leaving office, Bush retired to Texas, where he wrote his memoirs and founded the Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University.
Legacy
George Bush is remembered as a moderate Republican who served his country with honor and distinction. He was a strong leader who helped to guide the United States through a period of great change. Bush's legacy is one of leadership, service, and bipartisanship.
Personal life
Bush was married to Barbara Pierce Bush from 1945 until her death in 2018. They had six children, including former President George W. Bush. Bush was a devout Episcopalian and was active in his church.
Death
Bush died on November 30, 2018, at his home in Houston, Texas. He was 94 years old.
