In 1924, Mallory made his third and final attempt to climb Mount Everest. He was part of a British expedition led by Edward Norton. The expedition reached the North Col again. But this time, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine decided to make a summit attempt without oxygen.

Mallory and Irvine were last seen alive on June 8, 1924. They were climbing towards the summit of Everest. Their bodies have never been found.
