Cowgirls of the Sooner State

Oklahoma has a long and storied history of rodeo. The state is home to some of the most famous rodeos in the world, including the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo and the National Finals Rodeo. Oklahoma rodeo women have played a major role in the development of the sport, and their stories are an important part of the state's heritage.

The first rodeo in Oklahoma was held in 1889 in Guthrie. The rodeo featured a variety of events, including bronco riding, bull riding, and steer wrestling. Women were not allowed to compete in the rodeo, but they were often present as spectators. In the early 1900s, women began to participate in rodeo events as trick riders and barrel racers. These women were pioneers in the sport, and they helped to pave the way for future generations of rodeo women.

In the 1920s, the All-American Cowgirl Association was formed. The association was dedicated to promoting the participation of women in rodeo. The association held its first rodeo in 1929, and it has been held annually ever since. The All-American Cowgirl Association has played a major role in the development of women's rodeo, and it has helped to produce some of the most famous rodeo women in the world.

Today, women compete in all of the major rodeo events. They are world champions in barrel racing, breakaway roping, and goat tying. Rodeo women are also making their mark in the rodeo industry as judges, producers, and stock contractors. The women of Oklahoma rodeo are a testament to the strength, determination, and skill of women in the American West.
