The Marx Brothers were born into a Jewish family in New York City in the late 19th century. The brothers' father, Sam Marx, was a tailor, and their mother, Minnie Schönberg Marx, was a homemaker. The brothers had five children: Leonard (Groucho),Julius (Harpo),Milton (Chico),Herbert (Zeppo),and Gummo.

Harpo was often the victim of the other brothers' jokes. * Chico Marx was the Italian-accented member of the group. He was known for his fast-talking, con-man persona. Chico often played the role of the love interest. * Zeppo Marx was the youngest member of the group. He played the straight man to his brothers' antics. Zeppo left the group in 1933 to pursue a career in business.
